Jake received his B.S. in Aquatic Biology from Purdue University, a M.S. in Animal Science from Southern Illinois University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Idaho. His research focus is on aquaculture microbiome, genomics, and physiology. Research interests include understanding the physiological role of microorganisms that inhabit and interact with the mucosa of various aquatic animals and how those microbiota may affect nutrient digestion and immunity in host organisms. Jake's research combines skills in general physiology, microbiology, endocrinology, genetics, and bioinformatics. Jake's Extension work is meant to serve the aquaculture industry in Idaho and U.S. Pacific Northwest. Extension focuses are on translating research to solve industry problems, workforce development, and expanding aquaculture markets.
