About Jacob Bunch
I have a passion for igniting the collaboration, compromise, and cooperation needed to bring strategic visions to life, leveraging the power of our most valuable resource – people. As a senior leader, the key to my success is balancing dual strengths in strategic HR and business planning -- driving safe, fair, and inclusive work environments for all. As a champion of change, my 20+ year background and broad experience across utility, manufacturing, and facilities management lead organizations to harness the power of our workforce to boost production, safety, performance, and profitability. At CenterPoint Energy, my biggest contributions included shaping the systems that govern our labor relations, talent management, and safety programs. I joined the team as a labor relations manager and progressed to Director, overseeing collective bargaining negotiations, grievance administration, and proactive employee relations. In 2018, I was selected to serve as 1 of 6 director-level operations leaders, directly testing and refining the HR practices I previously put in place. During my time, I co-launched our centralized planning system and drove changes that improved strategic workforce planning, resolved a multi-million-dollar project dispute, and built a framework to enhance workplace culture, retention, engagement, and diversity. ◆As an advocate for equity and fairness, my impact on people and culture also spans the areas of: >> Repositioning transactional HR and Labor Relations divisions into strategic business allies. >> Advocating for both companies and employees as a labor and employment law practitioner. >> Resolving disputes at all levels through empathy, communication, and finding common ground, >> Driving data-driven and strategic human resources and business changes. >> Building leadership, talent, and culture programs aligned with organizational goals. I am passionate about building cultures where staff are treated as people rather than assets. I look forward to connecting with other like-minded Human Resource professionals to collaborate and share ideas here on LinkedIn. ◆ Core Competencies: Labor & Employee Law | Human Resource & Board Leadership | Continuous Improvement | Operational Streamlining | Policy & Procedures Implementation | KPI Analysis | Training & Development | Workforce Planning | Collective Bargaining | Safety & Compliance ◆ StrengthFinder Results: Adaptability, Empathy, Woo, Communications, and Includer

Director, Regulatory Affairs
Director, Electric Distribution Operations
After some organizational transitions, I was selected to serve on a 6-member leadership team with other operational leaders. I served as the HR and labor/employee relations expert while leading a team of 150 to execute operations (electrical distribution operations management) that services close to 1M metered customers in Downtown Houston and surrounding areas. ◆ Facilitated several months of intense negotiations between the City and internal representatives to resolve disagreements (budget/project scope) for a federally funded project. Mediated discussions and recently finalized terms between both parties to move the project forward. ◆ Streamlined business operations across all 12 sites after pitching executives to overhaul service delivery functions. Brought on specialists to create and integrate a centralized planning and scheduling infrastructure that reduced cost overruns and equalized a backlog of work. ◆ Selected Committee Involvement: Houston’s Electric’s Resource Allocation (Chair) Advisory Council of the Union Safety Program (member)CNP Political Action Committee Council (member)Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council (member)
Director Of Labor Relations
SCOPE: As a result of my labor and employee relations expertise and commitment to building cultures of fairness, equality, and equity, I was promoted to lead the labor relations group, helping the company save millions in annual costs through collective bargaining successes. By enhancing our policies, procedures, and processes, we built a stronger safety culture and HR functions built on the employee experience rather than compliance alone. During my leadership, I co-launched the Union Safety Program to better engage union workers, employees, and leaders in shared accountability for elevating the safety culture. ◆ Promoted to Director, served as Chief Spokesperson in collective bargaining and was the subject-matter expert on a wide range of employee, labor, and HR matters. ◆ Created a 1-day union avoidance training for leaders, aiding them in minimizing unionization and tools to deal with grievances and other workplace drama. ◆ Saved the company $6M in expense and successfully negotiated employee contracts across 7 bargaining units. Secured 100+ individual/union settlements and a 100% dismissal rate of all unfair labor practice charges to mitigate costly legal fees. ◆ Maintained a 100%-win rate for union representation campaigns during my time as director. ◆ Served as the Chair of the Edison Electric Institute's Labor & Employee Relations Committee
Labor Relations Manager
Served in this role before being promoted to Director, Labor Relations in April 2011.
Human Resources Manager
Here, I fostered a culture of accountability and improved the strategic direction of all HR and safety functions for a 5-state regional sales operation and manufacturing plant. During my leadership, I maintained ongoing compliance and continuous improvement while equipping leaders with the mindset and tools to reinforce a commitment to safety. I’m proud of my contribution to the safety culture and integration of the award-winning DuPont STOP (Safety Training Observation Program) to observe, train, and correct internal safety issues.
Labor Relations Administrator
With a diploma in hand, I landed my first post-graduate role here to support a newly developed employee and labor relations program. I was responsible for forming several policies, plans, and practices to administer labor contracts, including the administration of 17 collective bargaining agreements across the nation. Levering my expertise, I advised leaders and represented the company in arbitrations, hearings, and audits. ◆ Created the company’s first Affirmative Action plan and prevented all Affirmative Action compliance reviews from escalating beyond the “desk audit” stage. ◆ Acquired dismissal of several charges of unlawful discrimination filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and local fair employment agencies. ◆ Integrated a strike contingency plan in response to a prolonged work stoppage by 75 employees. I also secured NLRB action against the Union for picketing reserved gates for ingress/egress.
