  • Derivative Path, Inc.
    Vice President Of Engineering
Derivative Path, Inc. Aug 2020 - Apr 2024
    Walnut Creek, Ca, Us
During my tenure as VP of Engineering at Derivative Path, a leading FinTech company based in the San Francisco Bay Area, I played a pivotal role in steering the organization through a period of significant growth post-Series B funding. I led the engineering team through a three-fold expansion while driving revenue growth by 20% by mentoring ICs to achieve management positions, scaling the organization from two teams to six. My scope of responsibility included overseeing software development, IT, Security, and DevOps.One of my primary initiatives was the implementation of processes and procedures aimed at enhancing the development lifecycle. This included spearheading an Agile transformation and introducing modern tooling for code reviews, security scanning, automated builds, and CI/CD techniques, resulting in a 2X improvement in delivery speed. Code quality was improved from a quality rating of B or C to A in almost all instances. In addition, I reduced cloud spending by 25% by defining a formal process for creating cloud resources and enforcing consistent cloud usage across teams and servicesIn collaboration with the Chief Architect, I led a successful modernization effort to transition our legacy monolithic code base to cloud-hosted microservices in AWS. We reduced the incidence of Severity 1 issues and outages by 50% by implementing a robust observability system.Board-level reporting tools were used to track resource allocation across business lines, and investment categories, and implement software cost capitalization. We expanded tooling for capacity planning and team metrics, providing valuable insights for strategic decision-making.Our products leverage a wide range of languages and technologies, including C#, .NET/.NET Core, Blazor, SQL Server, REST APIs, Github, Codacy, Jellyfish and many AWS tools and technologies.
  • Mmit (Managed Markets Insight & Technology)
Senior Vice President Of Software Engineering
Mmit (Managed Markets Insight & Technology) Dec 2019 - Jul 2020
    Yardley, Pennsylvania, Us
MMIT is a product, solutions and advisory company bringing transparency to pharmacy and medical benefit information. As head of engineering, led an Agile-based turnaround of the engineering organization from an unfocused group of developers responding to the latest product issue or emergency to a disciplined set of focused teams delivering to clearly defined sprint commitments. Managed an organization of close to 60 engineers across 10 teams, local and remote.Partnered with the Product team to improve the predictability of roadmap deliverables by 100% with the introduction of well-defined and articulated product backlogs, story grooming and sprint planning sessions. With a better understanding of what is required, teams are able to properly plan their sprints, make their commitments and deliver on those commitments in a consistent fashion.Together with the VP of Quality, implemented a shift-left process of automated code reviews, automated testing and Quality Gates to ensure that issues are caught as early in the process as possible. For one team, this resulted in a 30% decrease of items needing rework and, across all teams, reduced the time needed for review of Pull Requests.Managed the process of transitioning from one off-shore vendor to another, significantly reducing expenses while minimizing impact to existing product commitments. Cost savings are estimated at over 70% through a combination of better pricing and more intelligent staffing.Products I was involved in leveraged a variety of languages, technologies and concepts including .NET/.NET Core, C#, Angular, SQL Server (on-prem and Azure), REST APIs, Github, Codacy, Azure and more.
