Building Specialist, Station Lead, Trimble SpecialistFading West Nov 2021 - May 2023Buena Vista, Colorado, United StatesI started working at Fading West as a Building Specialist on the factory line, but was quickly promoted to a station lead. I earned this promotion with my careful detail orientation and my relaxed but productive leadership style. With the help of upper management, my team and I reduced our station's turn around time drastically. During my time as station lead, my station went from turning over in an average of twelve hours to an average of six. We achieved this by applying lean production techniques such as single piece flow and elimination of rework. During my time as a station lead I lead several teams ranging from two people to five people. These teams often included incarcerated people on a work release program with the local prison. I also successfully managed people who did not speak any english. These experiences pushed me to develop excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills. Desiring a more technical role, I transitioned to Trimble Specialist at the factory. This role consisted of analyzing shop drawings to map a path for the Trimble layout system. Additionally, it involved working closely with the engineering team to fix any errors or discrepancies in the shop drawings. Finally, I acted as a go-between for the station leads and engineers to make sure the engineering drawings could bee executed in an efficient manner. -
Whitewater Raft Guild, Trip Leader, Land Crew LeaderNoah'S Ark Whitewater Rafting & Adventure Co. May 2017 - Aug 2021Buena Vista, Colorado, United StatesI worked at Noah's full time for five seasons and occupied a variety of roles. In high school I landscaped thee property as part of the land crew. Later I became a raft guide and the a trip leader. My final season I worked as a raft guide, trip leader, and land crew leader. On the land crew I performed manual labor such as mowing lawns, building outdoor staircases, grading parking lots, and shrub removal. The next summer I became a whitewater raft guide and took customers on trips down the Arkansas River. Guiding pushed me to develop my communication skills as I was responsible for entertaining the guests, but also fully conveying necessary safety information. The river is wild and unpredictable leading to a variety of dangerous situations. I learned to stay calm in high pressure situations. Being responsible for peoples' safety in inherently unsafe environment required constant self improvement. It was important to keep improving my rafting skills to provide a safer, more enjoyable experience. After two seasons of guiding I was given responsibility for an entire trip as a trip leader. A trip leader must be thinking about putting all their guides and guests in the best situations possible, so they develop empathy and observation in a high speed environment. Fortunately, I had very little go wrong on any of my trips. My final season as a full time employee, i joined the seasonal leadership team as the leader of the land crew. During this season, I juggled several roles as a guide, trip leader, and land crew manager. I became proficient at scheduling my time so I could focus fully on each different activity. The land crew was a team of seven high school students for whom I layed out tasks and expectations. -
