I am a PhD candidate at The University of Pittsburgh studying human genetics, type 2 diabetes, and growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15). I have a strong research background in endocrinology, genetic bioinformatics, and the physiology of insulin resistance. My passion is in studying the pathophysiology of diseases to end the diagnostic odyssey for all patients. This passion is inspired by my cousin Peter, who was the first and oldest patient in the United States with a deficiency in Tyrosine Hydroxylase (TH).I enjoy connecting with trainees, scientists, and innovative leaders in biotech. Variant AnalystGenomenon, Inc May 2022 - Aug 2022Curating the Human Genome with a specific focus on Tyrosine Hydroxylase (TH). I found over 93 variants in patients with TH deficiency reported in the scientific literature. This data set included 50 variants that are not found in ClinVar. Additionally, I calculated the genetic birth prevalence of this condition, which has not been reported before using gnomAD, ClinVar, and Mastermind. This data will be used for Rady Children's Institute for Genomic Medicine New Born Screening program to diagnose rare diseases in infants. -

This NIH funded project (2R01ES019566-07 and 1R01ES028686-01), “DNA damage recognition by nucleotide excision repair proteins”, in collaboration with Dr. Simon Watkins, uses state-of-the-art single molecule approaches, including atomic force microscopy, EMSA and incision assays, and oblique angle fluorescence to watch quantum-dot labeled DNA repair molecules interrogate DNA for structural alternations in real time. The long-term goal of this project is to watch multiple protein machines do work on DNA. Invited to present at the 2019 Pittsburgh Molecular Pharmacology SURP. -
