I was a mechanical engineer, working in the Sensors and Systems division of Crane Aerospace. We built high-fidelity proximity sensors, pressure sensors, fuel flow and power systems; basically all of the inner-guts of an aircraft or satellite that you likely forget exist. I was the mechanical engineer for a sensor system that will be deployed in the revamped B2 aircraft. I was also responsible for daily sustaining tasks that were required to optimize the manufacturing flow. This included everything from testing new supplier quality, providing root cause analysis for failures, updating drawings and process flows, and much more. Using AutoDesk Inventor Pro as primary CAD software.

A Universities Space Research Association (USRA) opportunity with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. I was participating in the Air Armament Scholars and Il supported the High Speed Fluid Structural Interactions and Reduced-Order Modeling project.I created a 12+ parameter sampling space in MATLAB, a FEM deformation scheme in Fortran and CFD scripts in Fun3D to capture the CFD and FEM relationship for the fluid-thermal-structural interactions of a 3D, hypersonic vehicle. This led to developing Kriging and POD reduced-order models to optimize surface panels in hypersonic flow on defense vehicles.

I learned a lot about working with manufacturing and optimizing processes/designs for manufacturing. I was responsible for investigating root cause issues with all 737 sidewalls and implementing solutions by utilizing 3D printing, rapid prototyping and design testing. This also included a process analysis and process improvement of current manufacturing techniques.I successfully designed a tool (patent pending) to assist in sidewall manufacturing and save Boeing $30,000 per year.

I was also responsible for optimizing the LabVIEW software used to test the spline shafts.
