About Jacob Levenson

I am a seasoned professional with 20+ years of experience in leading conservation/research projects, driving technology innovation initiatives, and finding creative solutions to complex problems related to environmental compliance, climate change, energy development, etc. With a strong commitment to developing and integrating new technology processes and tools, I am passionate about making this world a better place through enhancing environmental policies, management plans, and actionable local initiatives. My out-of-the-box thinking paired with a consistent focus on rapidly evolving technology allows me to drive innovation and creatively tackle environmental problems. From deploying new tagging tools to understand leatherback sea turtle behavior for identification of the sea areas that needed protection to building interactive apps enabling the shipping industry to reduce the risk of lethal ship-whale collisions, I have an in-depth understanding of the conservation/research field as well as how to find new ways to address long-established issues. Having spent my entire career as a marine biologist and chief idea guy, I am accustomed to the rigors of fast-paced, demanding environments requiring sharp attention to detail and the ability to navigate challenges with minimal resources.Throughout my career, I have established a track record of success by leveraging a collaborative leadership style to accomplish all short- and long-range objectives. This includes co-founding Conserve.io, a network of software developers, geo-data/mapping experts, business professionals, and academics working together for the protection of the environment through technology. I successfully built and implemented mobile data apps that enabled rapid dissemination of information to environmental researchers, managers, and citizen scientists. I also cultivated partnerships with local, state, and federal marine transportation industry stakeholders to create a tablet-based cetacean warning system.Furthermore, I am an Executive Director of a non-profit committed to achieving positive global ocean change as well as one of the BOEM’s key leaders of a $2M study conducted in partnership with NASA aimed at developing an open-source animal telemetry network leveraging micro-satellites.If you would like to connect or know more about my story, please don’t hesitate to send me an InMail message or email me at jlevenson@mac.com.
