Served as the Commander of a Medical Detachment operating forward in support of Operation(s) Spartan Shield, Inherent Resolve and Enduring Welcome. Executed the Veterinary Services medical function in an expeditionary environment to include, care for Military Working Animals (MWAs), protection of government owned subsistence and advised on zoonotic infectious diseases. Supervised six Veterinary Service Support Teams and a Headquarters element operating across eight different countries and 14 locations to include multiple combat zones. Ensured the provision of Role I-III veterinary medical care to over 200 MWA and Food protection for over 45,000 personnel across the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Area of Operations (AO).

Soto Cano Airbase, Honduras

Served as the Veterinary Services Officer-in-Charge for Joint Task Force-Bravo on Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras. Oversaw all Veterinary Service Support activities in the JTF-B. Supervised the Installation Support Plan at Soto Cano for ensuring safe, approved sources are available for 600 U.S. military personnel and 750 U.S. and Honduran civilians. Provided clinical veterinary care to Military Working Dogs assigned to JTF-B. Supported Force Health Protection through Rabies risk mitigation, Food and Water Risk Assessments, and Commercial Sanitary Audits throughout U.S. Southern Command. Executed Veterinary Global Health Engagements throughout Central America, to grow bilateral partnerships and produced readiness through exercises, training and subject-matter expert exchanges. Supervised and mentored 1 Veterinary Technician and 2 Veterinary Food Inspectors.

Provided oversight and technical expertise in food protection ensuring the safety of the DoD’s $8 Billion Troop Subsistence Program. Trained human healthcare providers in provision of emergency care to MWDs. Enhanced Force Health Protection by managing and implementing zoonotic disease prevention strategies.Major Accomplishments include: Expanded medical care for NATO partners in Afghanistan. Care for over 20 Battle Injuries (including 4 major trauma cases) and over 250 instances of Disease Non-Battle Injuries (DNBI). Completion of 10 Commerical Sanitary Audits bringing the Area of Operations (AO) up-to-date with sanitary audits.

Worked as a veterinarian providing support and oversight to the entire UTMB campus, which contains a large active animal research program spread across several sites and all levels of biocontainment (ABSL-3/4) with a daily USDA species census over 2,000 and rodent cage census near 6,000. UTMB facilities house a diverse array of species including: rodents, rabbits, ferrets, farm animals, non-traditional exotics to non-human primates. My primary responsibility was to provide medical and surgical care to all research animals housed in both bio-containment and conventional environments. Also support Principal Investigators (PIs) by providing technical services for IACUC approved protocols.
