The National Initiatives research team at The Center for Patient Partnerships of UW-Madison utilizes qualitative analysis techniques to translate patient experiences into data that can be used to better inform caregivers, academics, policymakers, and the general public. Our research, performed in partnership with HERN (Health Experience Research Network) scholars and students from across the country, transforms anecdotes into vivid and scientifically valid depictions of real problems that require real solutions in healthcare.This ongoing initiative has already produced results: a study and module titled “Young Adults’ Experiences With Depression” Thirty-eight young adults were interviewed about their experiences with depression. Our faculty, in partnership with HERN, synthesized the trends they observed, and the results speak for themselves—a resource that is academically vetted, yet approachable, designed from the ground up to be useful to researchers and the public side-by-side.
