Venture For America is a fellowship for recent grads who want to learn how to build a business while making an impact. I spent two weeks at HomeAway University learning about the company's technologies and building a movie database web app utilizing the HomeAway stack. During the majority of the summer, I developed the v2 version of the Core-Api team’s projection engine. The engine builds objects called "views" that function essentially like a database view but across multiple databases/endpoints. I built, tested and implemented a more efficient process for updating projected objects. Additionally, I designed the engine for easy and independent scaling and employed Kafka as a messaging queue system. In some of my free time during the summer, I shadowed team members as they monitored and repaired the platform’s infrastructure.

Hosted office hours twice a week to aid students with homework assignments and answer questions. I am a teaching assistant for Elements of Algorithms and Computations as well as Algorithmic Thinking at Rice University.

I worked on Data Integration team for Crimson Care Management application. I implemented validation processes for the CCM rule engine and scaled the application engine to facilitate rule creation for the integration engineering team. Additionally, I engaged with software architecture design and application tools, and I developed effective technical presentation and communication skills.

Jake taught Chemistry to rising 8th grade students from HISD, KIPP, YES Prep, and other schools. The Breakthrough program additionally focuses on training students teachers such as Jake as well as teaching middle school students new academic material.
