With the support of my community, I ran for local elected office because my district needs a strong advocate in the Hawaii State House. Although I was unsuccessful in this first attempt, I am so proud of our positive campaign and grateful for the outpouring of support we received from thousands of local families, business, and advocacy groups. I remain committed to being a progressive voice and working to ensure a more prosperous and sustainable future for everyone.

IMC a global non-profit disaster relief and humanitarian development agency that has directed over $2.5 billion in aid over the past thirty years. • Advised ongoing programs for primary healthcare, famine relief, water sanitation, maternal health, disease outbreak control, health system strengthening, and medical training • Supported strategic partnerships and new program development, securing over $20 million in additional grant funding from government sources• Served on the Global Rapid Response Team, deploying to 17 countries and leading four medical field missions• Served as Technical Advisor for outbreak response and disease risk reduction• Served at Interim Deputy Country Director for IMC-Somalia (2016)

The Emerging Pandemic Threats (EPT) program is a suite of projects designed to minimize the impact of pandemic threats on human health and economic stability by strengthening the capacity of developing nations to prevent, detect, and control local outbreaks. As a component of EPT, the PREPARE Project worked with national governments, the private sector, and civil society to develop multi-sectoral preparedness and response plans for a pandemic event.• Led the formation of 16 inter-governmental working groups and 26 major public-private partnerships across seven countries in Africa and Asia• Facilitated the development of 4 national-level and 2 regional-level pandemic coordination and response strategies• Managed and leveraged strategic relationships with national partners, international organizations, U.S. Government agencies, and research institutions • Received recognition from the WHO and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) upon project completion for innovative approaches to whole-of-society planning

Wisconsin Pharmacal Company is a private manufacturer of outdoor recreation and personal hygiene products. As the chief Microbiologist, I managed a small bacti lab and ensured quality control of the manufacturing process by swabbing, enumerating, and identifying pathogenic microbes in products and equipment. This was a temporary job between my undergraduate and graduate degrees, and was a natural continuation of significant undergrad research and lab work.

The AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin is home to one of the largest and fastest growing HIV health care systems. Through its integrated medical and social services, the ARCW is a leading provider of innovative and aggressive prevention services to help at-risk individuals stay free of HIV. In this role, I coordinated mobile and in-house HIV testing, managed online platforms for harm reduction, and led outreach activities targeting at-risk populations (men who have sex with men, injection drug users, sex workers).

Fair Wisconsin is a political organization dedicated to advancing civil rights and protection for LGBT people in the state of Wisconsin. In this role, I conducted statewide advocacy and lobby efforts, coordinated three major voter registration drives within my congressional district, formed and mobilized student-led groups at major universities, and partnered with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin to directly support key campaigns.
