Building Consultancy

Working for a property development company, the role has responsibility for the management of (approx.) £20 million estate. The key areas of accountability include the organisation and management of maintenance teams, achieving targeted occupancy levels and ensuring rental incomes are received on schedule. This position requires a critical eye for detail and the ability to negotiate at all levels.

This year long internship helped to improve the skills set required for a Building Surveyor. Work was focused in the following areas:- Measured and Condition Surveys- Party Wall Work- Independent Certifier on Private Finance Initiative Projects- Managed the change control process for the construction of Holyport Manor School- AutoCAD- Fire Insurance Valuations

This period of full time employment, provided a good introduction into the role of a Building Surveyor.Responsibilities included:- Building and site inspections – this involved looking at damage in buildings and assessing water ingress.- Attending contractor and client meetings – an insight into building procurement and contracts.- Drafting schedules of dilapidations – identifying breaches of covenants.
