Growing up in a large Christian dairy farming family, I learned early the value of conservation of energy, stewardship of resources, and durability. As I grew I took quite an interest in high-performance engines. No, this doesn't go very well with the ideas of conservation and stewardship! Nevertheless, the lessons I learned about designing as a system, as well as for durability, shaped who I am. I came to understand that high performance was not installing a couple of high performance parts, but that the entire engine needed to be specified with a well-defined goal. The entire vehicle must be built to complement the engine.As I matured, my Christian faith grew as well; and has influenced the way I do business significantly. While turning a profit is important, I am determined that being a blessing to my neighbor (the client) is absolutely necessary for my business.I have been involved in concrete construction since graduating from high school in 1994, primarily as a foreman on foundations and other walls. I really liked it, though I had no idea how my childhood and hobby would change the path of my career! I read a lot to keep up on industry knowledge and trends, and once I heard of Insulated Concrete Forms, I immediately knew that it was for me. Here was high-performance, conservation, stewardship, durability, and concrete all wrapped into one!My goal is to promote insulating concrete forms (ICF’s) as one of the best ways to construct any new building; while continuing to develop my knowledge of building in general, and green building in particular; to maintain my position in the industry as a leader and resource.I have worked on the smallest of commercial projects up to The Van Andel Institute.
