I worked as Senior Partnerships Manager for The Challenge with a remit to lead on new business and strategic partnerships for the HeadStart programme. HeadStart gets young people volunteering in their local community so that they mix and meet with people from all walks of life. It inspires young people to volunteer by guaranteeing everyone who does so an interview for a part-time job.HeadStart was launched in 2013 to work with just 30 young people. Within two years, it was working with almost 3,000 young people a year providing over 40,000 volunteering hours to local communities. In London, it is delivered in partnership with two fantastic partners: the Mayor of London and AGL Education and the support of some amazing employers including Bloomberg, Lloyds Banking Group, New Look, Starbucks and Zendesk.The Challenge is the UK's leading charity for building a more integrated society. The Challenge is working on behalf of the Department for Education to pilot Industry Placements, formerly known as Work Placements. Industry Placements are being introduced by the Department of Education as part of their broader reforms to technical education ahead of the introduction of T Levels from 2020.I was seconded to lead a business development team tasked with engaging employers across England to offer Level 3 students the chance to put into practice the knowledge and technical skills they are learning on a 45-60 day industry placements.
