Since my childhood and youth, I have a deep passion for languages, cultures, computers, and compelling stories. When I started my career as a language lecturer in 2016, I quickly realized that existing learning materials were outdated, not as useful as they could and should be, and far away from modern means of entertainment which we all enjoy so much.Software holds the key to addressing the challenges in language learning, as it allows us to stimulate a learner's mind like never before and overcome the inherent flaws of traditional courses. But the available language learning applications are superficial, repetitive, and they lack immersiveness and creativity. Overall, their didactic approach is much inferior compared to a well conducted live-course. Language learning should be exciting, fascinating, and beautiful, like the world we live in. It should deliver great results with high efficency and cover the target language up to the level of a well-spoken native - it should offer the full ocean-like amount of words, phrases, and sentences which native speakers use, and focus on how to connect things instead of isolated learning of vocabulary. Besides, it should contain famous memes and cultural works, immerse learners in daily life situations and captivating stories.Motivated to create this solution, I started to design the Almanach system, with the goal of tapping the full potential of software in language learning, based on my own didactic approach and software architecture that work in harmony together, leading to a system that can hold complete replicas of languages, learned in total immersion without the need for translations, suitable both for conducting live-classes with and self-study learning, and allowing for seamless transition between the two learning modes, to accompany learners life-long.In October 2022 then, the Almanach GmbH was founded, and the first version of the Almanach system is being used now at a major language learning school, allowing us to grow further and realize the complete vision of Almanach.
