Balancing work and school allowed me to improve my time management skills. As a cook in the back of house at Newk's Eatery I gained experience in a fast paced, quality focused environment. Throughout my shifts I would receive over 100 orders in which I would need to fulfill in a very quick, but high quality manner. I was also given the opportunity to train new employees in my station. This roll helped me to improve my fast paced work under immense pressure as well as communication with my team in the kitchen.

As a raft guide on the Ocoee river, I would take groups of up to six customers down a five-mile stretch of class 3-4 whitewater. During the trip, I would speak with customers about the history and details of the river as well as do fun, but safe activities like surfing. This role has taught me how to keep my cool and my customers safe and happy, even when things are going wrong and can be potentially dangerous. I was also able to strengthen my public speaking skills through trip speeches to 40+ people, and spending two hours at a time keeping strangers interested and engaged as I went down the river.
