About Jakub Marek

Member of UNISIG Technical Authority, which maintains and develops the generic ERTMS/ETCS specifications, called UNISIG Super Group, its Leader in 2024 and 2016, deputy Leader in 2023 and 2015. UNISIG Braking Curves Task Force Leader since 2020, leading a working group that aims at improving the ETCS Braking curves on a generic level.###As a system engineer, I participate in a Single European Railway Area (SERA) creation. I focus on technical systems that make railway traffic safer; i.e., on railway control-command and signalling systems. In this field, I have a doctorate (PhD) from the Faculty of Transport Engineering as well as have been working at AŽD Praha since 2006. In the past, I participated in the implementation of ERTMS/ETCS. For instance, in its first commercial project in the Czech Republic, covering more than 250 km of the railway line from Břeclav state border (with SK/AT) to Kolín (CZ).Today, I (as a member of working groups of UNISIG, an international consortium of signalling supply industry) have been dealing with the ERTMS/ETCS specifications at EU level (TSI CCS) in the frame of Change Control Management (CCM) process and advising the project teams on the specifications' aspects. For more than 10 years, I also taught courses about railway signalling systems at the University of Pardubice. Therefore, my experience comes from the research and development level (AŽD Praha, UNISIG, Europe's Rail JU) and the academic level (University of Pardubice).Besides the above, I am a UNISIG SG Leader in 2024 and was that in 2016, leading a working group of 15 persons (deputy Leader in 2023 and 2015). Since July 2020, I have also been a Leader of a newly created UNISIG Braking curves Task Force, a working group created to improve the ETCS braking curves. During August and September 2021, I was temporarily again acting as a UNISIG Super Group Leader for these two months, leading a working group of 20 persons.More about ERTMS and UNISIG can be found at www.ertms.net.I am also a Member of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (MIRSE).Specialties: Transport, Railway, Safety-Critical Systems, Control-Command and Signalling Systems, European Rail Traffic Management System / European Train Control System (ERTMS/ETCS)
