CurrentJason Lauritsen is the Director of Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in southwest Florida, a National Audubon Society nature preserve and a Ramsar designated wetland of international importance. Lauritsen establishes the vision and priorities for Audubon’s conservation efforts at Corkscrew and throughout the Western Everglades. He is responsible for the management of more than 13,000 acres, and all the Sanctuary’s programs: research, natural resources management, advocacy, and education. He is also the liaison on the Panther Island Mitigation Bank, leads Corkscrew’s Sustainability Board, and serves in a leadership role with Audubon Florida.Lauritsen’s expertise includes land management science, environmental conservation and restoration, wetland protection, invasive species management, and Wood Stork foraging availability in the Corkscrew watershed. He is an experienced presenter, educator, and writer who has authored numerous papers, publications, and presentations throughout his more than 25-year career in conservation and natural resources management. Lauritsen has served on the Wood Stork Monitoring and Recovery Group; the Lee County Density Reduction/Groundwater Resource Advisory Committee; and as a certified Prescribed Burn Boss. He developed an innovative tracking tool for use in assessing the appropriateness of regulatory agency permitting decisions on wetland impacts and convinced the USFWS to modify their Wood Stork concurrence tool for development related to Wood Storks. In 2016, he served as a delegate to China on a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) exchange program.Lauritsen believes strongly in effective land stewardship and the importance of conservation partnerships to ensure holistic ecosystem health; and, considers it a priority to invest in education and outreach for both the public and private sectors.

Jason leads the Florida Wildlife Corridor Coalition (Coalition) effort to permanently connect, protect and restore a statewide network of priority lands and waters that supports wildlife and people. The geography of the Florida Wildlife Corridor encompasses 18 million acres, and touches the lives of every Floridian. The principal focus of the organization is to ensure the critical links receive protection in a rapidly developing landscape.
