I had the pleasure to be at the Hack For Good event hosted at the LAB Miami on March 2016. There were 4 non-profit organizations that needed technology to solve some interesting issues. The charity I picked, was "Make The Homeless Smile" because I've always known that the homeless community requires our attention. The outcome of the 24 hour challenge was an application I called 'ProjectSmile' and it has 3 basic functions which are:Before you continue reading: Some homeless have smart phones and the app can also be available at shelters and other locations.1. Allow the homeless to find shelters, donations, health services among others that are close to their location.2. Allow anyone to submit food donations electronically so that the homeless can then claim their food at participating restaurants that are close to their location.3. Allow previous or current employers post recommendations so that they can help the homeless get back on their feet.It was a fun event and out of many developers, I'm proud to be able to say I was given 3rd place by the judges. Nevertheless, I feel prouder knowing that I did this for a great cause and that I walked out with tons of knowledge since I leveraged Meteor and Ionic frameworks for the first time to build this application.
