In this role I oversee Upper Peninsula Pocket Park, located on the Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds in Escanaba, MI. The park is open seasonally, spans 1 acre, and features a fishing pond stocked with bluegills for catch-and-release fishing, archery and pellet gun ranges, a fire tower, a waterfall, and a dozen specialty gardens. As the lead worker at the park, I manage a budget and oversee three staff members and put on interpretative programs for the local community.I perform a variety of professional assignments to carry out programs involving natural and cultural history. My work includes planning, constructing, and maintaining all interpretive exhibits, display information panels, and historical period settings in the park.Additionally, I operate and maintain sophisticated audio-visual equipment, miscellaneous power equipment, hand tools, fishing rods, pellet guns, bows and archery equipment. I initiate and conduct research concerning natural and man-made features for inclusion in interpretive exhibits, and programs. I create budgets estimates, requests, analyses of programs, and special correspondence relating to the park interpretation program. I make recommendations for master plans to ensure the preservation of natural and scientific features. Moreover, I maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to my work.
