CABNCreative Arts Business Network (CABN) is an informal network and information sharing project to support the creative arts sector in the Scottish Borders. CABN supports creative individuals and organisations working in the fields of:Visual Arts, Craft, Literature, Film, Music and Performing Arts .CABN delivers specialised training and support, and runs a grant scheme for Visual Artists and Craft Makers in partnership with Creative Scotland.CABN Creative Leader Mary Morrison can be contacted for advice, and depending on what sort of support you require, can also signpost you to other organisations who can help you further. CABN is currently funded to December 2013 to deliver a range of activities under the project heading 'New Work'. This New Work programme is funded by Scottish Borders LEADER and Creative Scotland. The project is based in Tower Mill, Hawick and is managed by a part-time Creative Leader (Mary Morrison) and a part time Clerical Assistant (Kay McCluskey). Advocates will be experienced practitioners in their fields and will inform the design and the delivery of the CABN New Work project. Shooglenifty was formed in 1990 by musicians from the Scottish Highlands, Orkney and Edinburgh, its bright spark was the idea of fusing traditional and traditional-sounding melodies with the beats and basslines of a mixed bag of more contemporary influences. As happy playing a small highland village hall as they are on a outdoor festival stage playing to tens of thousands, the Shoogles (as they’re known to their fans) have promoted Scottish music all over the world for more than a quarter century. In 2015 they played venues in Sarawak and Stornoway, Lorient and London, Adelaide and Aberdeen, Bangalore and Bristol, and released their seventh studio album The Untied Knot. This featured the first ever collection of Shoogle songs and introduced their newest member, puirt à beul vocalist Kaela Rowan. It received a 5* ‘Top of the World’ rating in Songlines, among many other favourable reviews. Songlines also nominated the band for Best Group in early 2016. The Untied Knot was nominated for Best Album at ‘Na Trads 2015’ – the Scottish Traditional Music Awards.In October 2016, the band lost their fiddler Angus R Grant, and took the end of that year to take a well-earned pause. They were bowled over by the numerous tributes and stories shared about their influential front man, not to mention the outpouring of love for Angus on social media. In January 2017 they channelled that emotion into a tribute gig for Angus at Celtic Connections featuring no less than 62 musicians who were all touched by his music.In December 2017, A Night For Angus won Event of the Year at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards (Na Trads).Shooglenifty is currently producing their 8th studio album. Recordings took place in India, Galicia and Scotland. Expected release is September 2018.In February 2018, Eilidh Shaw joined the band as fiddle player. Gigs at Edinburgh Tradfest and Shetland Folk Festival are planned to launch the new line up.

Recording and performing drums and percussion for numerous projects bands and artists both in the recording studio and the stage as well as on television and radio.Recent work has been with the acclaimed BBC Television show "The Transatlantic Sessions" and recording sessions with Heidi Talbot, Joy Dunlop and Ross Ainslie for there respective forthecoming albums.

Welcome to Sound Cycle, the new Youth Borders Youth Music Forum.Our aims are to reinvigorate the youth music scene throughout the Borders and provide more opportunities for anyone with an interest in music, in any form.We’ll be sharing our resources, running workshops, organising training and lessons, organising sessions, sharing gear, recording tracks and putting on gigs and concerts. For those serious about pursuing a career in music we aim to collaborate with our partners and provide opportunities to visit music and music technology courses and other exciting events throughout Scotland.If you have any amount of interest, be it in singing, playing, filming, teaching, recording, sound engineering, DJing, stage management, backline, sound mixing, sleeve design or anything else musical, please get involved and sign up, and we’ll keep you posted of our planned events.
