Jamahl Snaith Simmons is the Member of Parliament for Constituency 33, Sandys South, Bermuda and is a Media and Public Relations Specialist. A graduate of Howard University, he began his career as a broadcast journalist for Bermuda's NBC "affiliate," VSB News Channel 11. The following year, he received a Best of Bermuda Award as Bermuda's Best Sportscaster. Jamahl Simmons was elected to Parliament in a by-election for the constituency of Pembroke West on February 7, 2002 with 60% of the popular vote. He collected a Best of Bermuda Award for "Political Coup of the Year," for being Bermuda's then youngest elected MP.Re-elected in 2003 with 64% of the vote, Simmons was appointed a Justice of the Peace by the Governor of Bermuda.During his tenure in Parliament, he served as Shadow Minister of the Environment, Shadow Minister for Human Rights and Transport and Shadow Minister for Race Relations and Economic Empowerment.Mr. Simmons did not seek re-election in the 2007 General Election and went on to host the highly rated Election 2007 radio show on Bermuda's Magic 102.7 FM.In February 2008, Mr. Simmons was appointed to serve as Chief of Staff/Executive Aide to the Premier of Bermuda, Dr. Ewart F. Brown. In February 2010, he was appointed to the post of Press Secretary to the Premier of Bermuda, serving in that post until the conclusion of Premier Brown's term in October 2010.Jamahl Simmons is currently operating as a Marketing and Public Relations Consultant providing services to a variety of businesses and clients around the world.
