Worked with the Fire Minister and the Deputy Director for Fire Safety to develop and implement external communication campaigns to influence public opinion on the how the Government was improving fire safety after the Grenfell Tower tragedy.Product manager for the Government’s tool for rating the fire risk of buildings. I developed this tool by leading a cross-functional team (IT, policy, legal and fire experts) under severe time constraints. The product was developed in 4 months when it usually takes a year and now has over 1 million users.I brokered the Government’s agreement with internal and external cross-functional teams on new national laws to stop building owners using dangerous cladding. Legislation is now in force and I have ensured dangerous cladding is going to be removed from over 10,000 buildings.Making difficult policy decisions which impacts citizens. I provide policy advice on whether individuals meet the UK’s definition of “modern slavery”.

Reported to HMRC’s Chief Executive and advised him on cross cutting issues affecting HMRC.Led a team of 5 people. Coached and mentored them to ensure the Chief Executive’s priorities were being met.

Worked collaboratively with the prison service Chief Executive’s Office and Prison Governors to develop prison workforce professionalisation strategy. Developing new professional qualifications for prison officers. Improved the prison service recruitment processes to attract talented individuals from ethnic minority groups.

Represented the United Kingdom at EU working groups and meetings with the European Commission on victims of crime policy. Also worked with cross functional teams made up of EU Member States on a range of EU civil and criminal laws and negotiated with the EU Commission and European Parliament to ensure UK Government objectives were being met. Proactively developed bilateral relationships with EMEA countries to learn lessons on how the U.K. and EMEA countries can improve the support for victims of crime.

Responsible for monitoring, analysing and recommending policy changes on income tax law. This included identifying tax loopholes on company car tax laws and then led cross functional teams to close these tax avoidance schemes. By doing so, £2.5 billion of public revenue was protected.Developed an in-house training package for members in the team on personal tax legislation. resulting in increased performance and productivity.

Visits manager for the previous Justice Secretary (Ken Clarke). This included briefing him directly on difficult negotiations and meetings with EU member states and the European Commission on how to unblock issues to ensure U.K. policy objectives were being delivered.Also arranged visits for the Justice Secretary to EMEA countries to promote U.K. legal services abroad and defend the rule of law. Monitored and analysed trends and changes on EU criminal legislation and internal treaties. This included building coalitions with EU Member States and EMEA countries to make progress on policy issues. Developed and delivered in-house training products on how EU legislation is developed and U.K. Parliamentary procedures on scrutinising EU law.

Developed and implemented a long-term sustainable fundraising strategy. This resulted in the charity increasing its income by 50% in the first year and ensured its solvency status.
