Over the course of his legal career which includes private practice and public service, Jamal has tried 10 cases and has argued and won in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also supervised dozens of investigations, including one for a Fortune 5 Company. During his tenure as a Trial Attorney for Federal Defenders of San Diego, Jamal pioneered innovative legal strategies. For example, Jamal was able to use the directives of one federal law enforcement agency against another to force dismissal of a case where the client was caught with contraband strapped to his body and confessed. Jamal and other attorneys in the district used this strategy to secure the dismissal of hundreds of criminal cases. In private practice, Jamal has secured millions of dollars in damages, recovered attorney fees and costs, defended clients in class action lawsuits, and has helped clients to testify in front of government agencies and committees. Further, in addition to the investigations that he led at the Federal Defender's Office, has led and participated in civil investigations involving derivative shareholder litigation, sexual harassment, wire fraud, mail fraud and honest services fraud.
