Created and led the Legislative Advocacy Fellowship, a program designed for advocacy leaders who are early in their career. The ten month program is designed so that CMO and other non-profit leaders work one-on-one with our legislative advocacy expert-in-residence, participate in strategic content and training sessions, and collaborate with peers engaged in similar advocacy work across the country to deepen their understanding of statewide legislative advocacy and drive policy change. Collaborated with cross-functional team members to lead the redesign of our partner selection process to streamline and provide more transparency across the organization for the process. Engage in external speaking engagements as the internal leader of organizing and advocacy at the organization. Was a panelist or speaker at: Charter School Growth Fund PCA Convening 2022/2023, SXSW EDU 2023 and Diverse Charter Schools Coalition Conference 2024.Craft and set the org-wide strategy for organizing and advocacy work, informed by national and local trends in the organizing and advocacy field. Through that strategy, lead a team of five partnership success managers who work with external organizing and advocacy leaders to drive their work on electoral, organizing and advocacy campaigns.

In coordination with internal data team members, utilize short- & long-term goal planning and project management to support external partners execute organizing and advocacy campaigns. Utilizing these strategies led to the following wins: four partners fully reintegrated to using our tools and support and are consistently executing strong campaigns; two parent led community organizing groups ran successful voter registration and get out the vote campaigns for the first time in 2021; all external partners indicated they have an increased satisfaction with the support they received in 2021. Developed customized onboarding plans for two direct reports, leading to an accelerated timeline for them working with outside partners and assuming the full suite of their roles and responsibilities. Through ongoing support and management, both direct reports have developed stronger skillsets and their partner’s satisfaction with their support has also increased. Created an in-house toolkit which will be used to streamline Charter Organizations use of data with our organization. Worked cross-functionally with our legal and data teams to determine the scope of this work and to successfully build out the toolkit. Collaborate with the VP of Partnerships to deepen CMO partner relationships and cultivate a new pipeline of CMO partners for the organization.

Created multi-year vision and strategy for our Student Support team. Collaborated with other members of our leadership team to implement the vision and strategy, which led to an increase in the academic performance of students with IEP’s with an increase of over 50% in the math achievement of all students with IEP’s from 2017-2018 to 2018-2019 school year and 70% of students with IEP’s meeting their MAP goals for the 2018-2019 school year. Coached and managed a multi-disciplinary team, providing ongoing weekly professional development to all team members and real time coaching to staff members in the classroom. The cohesiveness built over the three years led to a 52% increase of teachers responding on our annual teacher survey that students receive the necessary and appropriate accommodations at our school. Updated special education records system and trained 7 case managers to dutifully follow the new system, leading to our school achieving 100% compliance on local and state special education file audits. Coordinated the provision of special education services across our entire school, working cross-functionally with individuals within and outside of our school campus, during virtual instruction due to COVID-19, which led to a reduced number of students needing compensatory services when they returned to in person instruction.

Created a grade level strategic vision and utilized it to coach and manage a multi-discipline team of 10 2nd-4th grade teachers, Special Education case managers, instructional interventionists and Excellence teachers.Created weekly professional development sessions for upwards of 20 teachers around the following topics which helped drive towards our instructional goals: classroom and behavior management, lesson and unit plan creation, culturally responsive pedagogy, and academic data dives. Designed and maintained the overarching in class management system, “System of Care” for 3rd and 4th grade. Held weekly meetings with those grade levels to respond to the behavior data and modify aspects of the system to ensure all stakeholders were upholding our restorative practices. Aligned with the Dean of Students to ensure consistent positive culture through: creating weekly grade level celebrations, monitoring bus culture and creating professional development to align with bus drivers, co-developing individual plans for students with specific behavior needs, and leading check-ins with culture coordinators to ensure alignment across the school.

Led a team of 14 Regional Strategy Team members to grow our parent and teacher organizing membership base from ~35 in 2016 to an active membership base over ~100. Organized house meetings, community trainings and workshops with elected officials to help parents, students and teachers improve their understanding of the education system in New Orleans. Brought in additional organizers from outside of Louisiana to increase our Regional Strategy Team’s organizing knowledge. Cultivated strategic partnerships with other aligned educational organizations in New Orleans and Louisiana to ensure strategic local and state wins on: adding restorative justice practices to the Orleans Parish School Board’s expulsion policy, removing non-unanimous juries in felony decisions, and eliminating the Louisiana state policy on not allowing students without social security numbers to participate in high school athletics.

Managed a core campaign team of 5 individuals, along with over 30 volunteers, who were able to directly contact over 10,000 registered voters utilizing the m{insights platform for all outreach efforts.Successfully raised over $28,000 from more than 225 unique donors, with an average give of $80.Created consistent campaign messaging and branding leading to endorsements from Democrats for Educational Reform and Indivisible NOLA. Held community conversations to refine our policy platform, which was centered on: increasing funding and district supports for mental health/trauma and special education, diversifying the types of charter and direct-run schools that are available for parents to send their students, and increasing the number of holistic measures used to determine school effectiveness.

Designed and executed weekly data meetings with the science and math teachers on campus. These meetings led to teachers more routinely utilizing different sources of data to drive their instruction.Coached three science and two math teachers, utilizing weekly observations and debriefs to give targeted feedback on instruction. Teachers have continually increased their daily exit ticket data and district Benchmark scores as a result of targeted feedback. Oversaw the 504 Program at our school to ensure that teachers are well versed on the daily accommodations they must provide to students. Updated and streamlined the 504 Program to ensure ease of access for all stakeholders.

Coached and designed individual development plans for 24 1st and 2nd year teachers across eight campuses, with a focus on increasing student discourse and student ownership of lessons through the 5E and PDP teaching models. Facilitated professional development learning opportunities related to STEM and culturally responsive teaching once a month to roughly 25 participants a session. Assisted in developing training sessions and structures for Corps Member Advisors prior to the 2015 Houston Summer Institute. The training sessions focused on: giving critical and timely feedback on lesson plans, developing a strong cohort culture, conducting difficult conversations, and analyzing classrooms.

Designed professional development sessions for 14 incoming Corps Members which pushed their understanding of lesson planning, relationship building, and diversity in schools. Collaborated with fellow Corps Member Advisors in two other summer school locations to ensure consistency in our messaging to incoming Corps MembersRefined Diversity, Community and Achievement sessions with fellow school team members to make them more personal for Corps Members which helped us achieve the highest DCA survey results in our school’s history.Recognized as a top CMA and an automatic rehire due in part to achieving top survey results from my Corps Members and assisting them in attaining top student achievement data at the Houston Institute.

Created a series of sessions for 11th and 12th grade students concerning the issue of social justice. These sessions increased our students’ awareness of social justice issues around the world and empowered the students to create a Social Justice Committee for outreach to other schools. Assisted the Student Support Counselor (SSC) in developing Senior Decompression Sessions, a safe meeting space for seniors to debrief every two weeks with our SSC, which led to a decrease in student stress levels.Observed grade level teachers and provided feedback on best practices for improving classroom culture, which led to an overall increase in the student culture of our grade level.

Taught over 75 juniors and seniors an AP aligned science curriculum with an emphasis on college readiness and lab skills.Implemented an after school tutorial system based upon tracked test data for PreCalculus students which led to them achieving the highest scores within YES Prep Public Schools for their Common Assessments. Designed six AP aligned Physics labs and six AP aligned Environmental Systems labs with the Physics and Environmental Systems Course Leaders.Improved Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills standardized test performance as 100% of students I taught passed both the science and math sections, with 68% of math students gaining commended performance and 20% of science students gaining commended performance.

Utilized the APEX Learning System to monitor and track student performance in their online math and science classes in order to create targeted intervention and motivation. Supervised and taught up to 6 students, simultaneously, various high school math and science classes.Created individualized tutorial schedule for students to pass the Exit Level Science TAKS Test, with a passing rate of 100% for first time test takers in the Spring 2011 semester.

Taught 130 sophomores, juniors and seniors a rigorous science curriculum emphasizing real-world application of material.Developed a college-oriented classroom focusing on college readiness, with 100% of students applying to and getting accepted into a 4-year college.Increased science fair participation rate by 15% as science fair coordinator.Collaborated with fellow teachers, administrators, teachers and community members on issues affecting the school as a member of the Shared Decision Making Committee.Improved leadership and team-work abilities of 20 students as varsity boys soccer coach for two seasons.

Interviewed clients for intake and follow up appointments utilizing case management skills to assist clients in finding employment, housing, and healthcare resources.Created first brochure for the Homeless Day Service Center, which was used at numerous resource fairs.
