Accord is an employee-owned consulting organisation, specialising in oil and gas measurement, allocation and hydrocarbon accounting. As one of three founding directors, James is involved in all aspects of running the business, including recruitment, customer relationship management and delivery.

In 2010, Shell established a global Hydrocarbon Production Information Management (HPIM) team. This team is key to standardisation of working practice in hydrocarbon accounting and delivers the global, business-side input to changes in business processes and systems. Between 2013 and 2015, James held a team lead role with responsibility for framing projects, budgeting and delivery.

Between 2006 and 2009, Shell implemented EC for all UK assets (operated and non-operated) and for all operated assets in Norway. James led the a multi-vendor team to deliver the specification, user testing and training activities for each of the twelve EC Production and two EC Transport roll-outs. These covered ten operated producing hubs, three operated FPSOs and twenty non-operated fields.Subsequently, (2009 through 2012), Shell implemented EC for all their Netherlands assets (operated and non-operated). James led an international team to deliver the specification, implementation, user testing and training activities for each of the EC Production roll-outs. These covered 23 discrete production networks and three oil/condensate terminals.

During his time at Smith Rea, James grew the Systems Delivery consulting unit to 15 people, turning over circa £2Mpa.

Among other roles, James was the TietoEnator project manager on the Energy Components implementation project for BP’s Forties Pipeline System. Working in an international, multi-vendor team, James had accountability for TietoEnator resourcing, vendor relations and technical architecture.

Between 1997 and 2000, James worked in a range of support and software development roles with Logica’s PRODIS hydrocarbon accounting system. In 2001 and 2002 James worked to develop Logica’s hydrocarbon accounting business in South East Asia.
