Jim has maintained a studio in Philadelphia, PA since 1984, and has been engaged with freelance and fine art photography at all levels for over 25 years. From freelance architectural, corporate, landscape photography, to gallery director at Aperture’s first gallery, and later founded Exhibit 231 an exhibition space/studio. Abbott has been awarded numerous grants, artist residencies, and two Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowships. He was a 2012 - 2013 Artist Fellow with the Independence Foundation for his Berlin Project. He has received numerous commissions, creating photographs for such organizations as the American Philosophical Society, University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Ballet, and Fairmount Park Art Association. His commercial assignments include national and international experience, studio and location assignments for architects, landscape architects, graphic designers - corporate, non profits, and editorial clients. He teaches at the college level and exhibits regularly. His photography is housed in private and public collections.
