Sitting across Global Data & Analysis team, the role involves the collection, processing and reporting of data associated with the Global Recorded Music Industry. This includes revenue and chart data, as well as supporting with other ad-hoc data reporting processes, such as the annual Global Music Report and the IFPI Global Charts.

In this music streaming research project, I lead a small team as we investigate the contexts, methods, and capabilities around the active use of streaming platform APIs in music research. We’re particularly interested in the effect of recommendation algorithms on non-Western music cultures.

MSC Big Band was a collective of musicians whose goal was to breathe life into the traditional big band format by reimagining its performance context. We started by re-working jazz, hip-hop, soul, and dance music classics, and by 2018 we were performing fully original sets live with electronics and dynamic lighting. MSC club nights with high-profile DJs built us a huge audience of young people in south Manchester, and we were soon able to perform at major venues like the O2 Apollo - and by 2019… Show more MSC Big Band was a collective of musicians whose goal was to breathe life into the traditional big band format by reimagining its performance context. MSC club nights with high-profile DJs built us a huge audience of young people in south Manchester, and we were soon able to perform at major venues like the O2 Apollo - and by 2019 we had a residency at Band On The Wall, playing there three times a year. I sourced a partnership with Skiddle which gave us priority booking and featured slots. We would perform at multiple festivals including a highlight set at the Riot Jazz tent at Kendal Calling.
