Two years working as part of the Mobile Mapping Team, applying surveying and analytical experience from a wide range of sectors. The role with Downer began on contract providing as-built plans for large civil projects using CAD/12D and GIS (ESRI). The job then progressed to include surveying – helping out the Survey Team with numerous projects, both in the field and in the office as required (CSM2 for example). In the final phase I shifted to testing and initializing Downer’s latest scanner technology – The Leica Pegasus: Two Ultimate, New Zealand’s first mobile scanner of its kind.- GIS and CAD Drafting- Spatial Data Analysis- Survey Data Capture and Processing- Survey Support (Base Station Setup, TOPOs etc)- Work flow process documentation- Equipment Testing- Staff Training

This position involved the analysis, mapping and surveying of Network Rail assets throughout the UK. Working as part of the Land Information (GIS) team I provided bespoke services to both internal and external clients, in the office, on-site and online. In Office: Deed capture and historical record analysis, Data modelling & Spatial Analysis using ESRI ArcGIS. LIDAR and other survey data processing, Plan Production (electronic and hard copy), Management of Corporate Datasets, Statistical Analysis, Management of Station CAD portfolio drawings & schematics. Survey Pre/Post Production reports, Costings & Safety Workpack creation. Team coordinator for GPS and TS maintenance. On-site: Managed Station Internals, Building Elevations, Cross-Sectional Profiles, Platform Monitoring, Boundary Demarcation, Topo Surveys, Closed/Open Loop Traverses, Levelling, Volumetrics, Environmental Impact Assessments, Tree Surveys, Land Slip Contouring etc. we also provided Work Safety Assessments in accordance with company standards.

This contract saw me working for SEPA, providing spatial analysis and hydrological modelling support to permanent members of staff. Working with National Flood Risk data the project involved the identification and analysis of potentially vulnerable areas that are prone to flooding. The subsequent outputs were sent to Scottish Ministers for consultation and integrated into the National Sustainable Flooding Plans (released in 2015).

The contract involved the processing of Classified image datasets and subsequent analysis of the raster images. The data capture work that followed on from this was the intensive part of the project, requiring feature identification and extraction of a wide range of landcover types and real-world objects.

15 months work for MoD Defence Estates where I was drafted in as part of the Geospatial Services South Team (Westdown Camp). I was employed to clear the back log of outstanding work, implement new custom toolsets and complete the ongoing PAI scheme. The work involved carrying out all duties of a permanent analyst’s role, and the typical workload included:• Data editing, capture, and management within ArcGIS 9.1 • Creation of new maps and plans – both electronic and hard copy.• Providing updates to outdated plans/records. • Licence creation and export of datasets to third party contractors.• Scanning and preservation of historic documents (Indenture’s etc).• Provision of customisable toolsets for ArcGIS.• Statistical Analysis (spatial and variable based).• Improvement in spatial accuracy of DEED and DEADMIN datasets (PAI).

Working on highways asset management projects, typical workload involved geo-referencing images, digitising highway waste water network, and other various tasks within ArcGIS and MapInfo.

Sixteen months work in which I was set the task of replacing the current redundant Local Land and Property Gatetteer (LLPG) with a fully synchronised and up to date solution, whilst also providing GIS support to the lead analyst. Key tasks included:• Validation and amendment of the BS7666 database.• Identify constraints in synchronising with the National Hub.• Ensure regular extracts were sent to hub before MSA deadlines.• Identify key software limitations and seek alternative solutions.• Repopulate NSG dataset and manage County queries.• Clear backlog of Street Naming and Numbering Certificates.• Work with EH and Planning team to ensure data consistency.• Oversee system upgrade (DTF 7.3)• Customise new Software to users requirements (GGP NGz)• Train new member of staff for permanent GIS/LLPG role.

Fifteen months work as part of the GIS/LLPG team which operates within the Development Department at Leeds Council. We were set the task of creating and maintaining the central uniform LLPG database as well as ensuring that data from other departments was successfully incorporated into the GIS system.

I worked for two years on the Power GIS (Electrical Network) project for United Utilities using custom build AutoDesk Map CAD/GIS. Most of the work involved data interrogation within the electrical network model. Tasks included: electrical network analysis, attribute discrepancy detection, quality control and verification of work submitted by contractors, maintenance of the database and regulation of aslaid data etc. I also worked on several other information management systems whilst at United Utilities. I helped maintain and upgrade the following systems: ESCAR, MapInfo substation database (point data and 250-1k grid map sheet data), internal property gazetteer, Microsoft Access based Validation report and data, testing of new online browser version of the GIS.
