Restraints Engineer. Responsible for Delivering Automotive Airbag Systems.

Working as part of the Restraints team, I am responsible for the delivery of several Airbag systems for new vehicle models. I currently own the side curtain, passenger, knee and front & rear Side Airbag systems, and FMVSS 226. My role is to own the project from initial concept stages through to production following the project emergence process. This includes being involved with the supplier nomination and costing process, and then working closely with the suppliers to develop a suitable airbag module for the Bentley environment. I often visit suppliers and their manufacturing facilities during the early stages of the project to assist with the design maturity. Within Bentley I am required to work cross functionally with all the different departments to ensure the supplied Airbag module meets all the relevant criteria. I am then responsible for overseeing all of the system validation testing both in house and at external test houses to ensure that all of the performance criteria is met. I also work closely with the whole vehicle crash team to ensure that the legal requirements are met. This involves supporting crash tests at an external test house in Germany. I have to ensure that all of the relevant paperwork is completed at each stage of the project. This includes test plans, DFMEA's, validation reports, drawing creation and releases, BoM's, test reports, manufacturing documents, etc...Ultimately I am then required to sign off the complete airbag system for production and hand over the project to the current manufacturing team for SOP.

Dealing directly with customers, one of my main roles was co-ordinating the ordering, delivery and testing of prototype parts for the OEM's. This included concept design and validation feedback to the customers as well as overseeing the various manufacturing processes of the parts internally in order to meet the customer delivery deadlines.Once a design has been validated and approved for production by the OEM, some of my roles include creating the documentation and necessary provisions, along with the project leader to ensure that the parts can be put into production. This includes creating and maintaining standard automotive documentation such as DFMEA's, DVP&R's, SC/CC lists and BOM's, as well as any other planning and documentation needed to put a prototype part into production. As most of the current production sites are now in low labour cost countries, I frequently communicated with foreign colleagues to ensure that all the necessary measures are in place to meet customer SOP dates. This often involved visits to both customer and production sites.This role also included overseeing the work of three project platform based CAD Engineers

Working in the technical office on a product based platform table. My roles included creating both prototype and production airbag drawings for the automotive industry. This involved dealing directly with various international customers, and making proposals and recommendations for product improvement and cost reduction, with regular site visits. The role also included taking customer concept designs and turning them into manufacturable product drawings, taking into account manufacturability, assembly processes, tolerance studies and performance criteria. This was done using AutoCAD 2008, Catia V5 and Catia V4 CAD packages, along with various product data management (PDM / PLM) systems, one of which I held the administrator role for.

Design Engineer.Design, Test & Manufacture new Fitness Equipment.

Working as part of a team within the Design Office my job entailed generating computer aided engineering detailed drawings in both 2D and 3D using AutoCAD and Solid Works CAD packages. These were mainly product component and assembly drawings, but also included layout drawings of both fitness suites and our manufacturing premises, managing the creation and publication of all technical documentation, handling quality control and production problems on new machines. I have travelled to Hong Kong, America and Germany with the company for various different sales exhibitions to promote our products. When manufacturing was first moved to Taiwan I travelled there several times to instruct them how to assemble machines and to oversee initial production to ensure it was successful.Pulse FitnessStarted working with the company part-time whilst doing my A-Levels. After six months I was promoted to managing a small department which involved refurbishing second hand fitness equipment and selling directly to customers. At times this position meant I had people working for me. After completing my A-Levels I ran this department full-time for 18 months before being promoted to the Design Office.
