CurrentJim is President of Bennett Marine Systems, located in Camden, Maine, providing marine technical and business consulting services. James G Bennett has had a distinguished eleven-year career as an engineering fellow and naval business director at Raytheon Company. Prior to that, Jim was a practicing naval architect, manager and director at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works Corporation. Jim received his B.S.E. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering in 1980 and subsequently a M.S.E. degree in Ship Hydrodynamics in 1981, both from the University of Michigan. In 2017, he was appointed to the National Academy of Sciences Marine Board where he leads the group focused on autonomous marine vehicles development. Jim holds a 50 GT master mariners certificate from the US Coast Guard and is an avid and accomplished competitive offshore sailor and mentor of aspiring young sailors.
