Brick has tried a wide range of Family Law cases involving custody, removal, property division and support related issues in Middlesex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Plymouth and Essex County Probate and Family Courts. In addition to his trial expertise, Jim is certified as a Collaborative Lawyer by the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Counsel and recognizes that in most family law cases, a negotiated settlement may be the preferred method of resolution. Jim has been appointed by the Middlesex Probate and Family Court to serve as a Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) and Special Master in numerous family law cases.Jim has been recognized as a Massachusetts "Super Lawyer" by Boston Magazine, Law & Politics; a distinction awarded to only 5% of lawyers in Massachusetts. Prior to practicing Family Law, Jim served as an Assistant District Attorney in both the Middlesex and Bristol Counties for 6 years where he prosecuted numerous violent felony cases including homicides, sexual assaults and child abuse cases (both jury and jury-waived trials). He also served as the Chief Prosecutor in the Middlesex County Narcotics Unit and tried many narcotics cases.Jim is a member of the Family Law section of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Counsel and has lectured on Family Law Issues for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. (MCLE). Jim is a graduate of Northwestern University and University of Miami Law School and is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts state courts and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts
