Ascension Michigan is comprised of 15 hospitals, 1 substance abuse recovery center, 3 ambulatory surgery centers, 2 stand-alone emergency departments, and approx. 150 ambulatory healthcare clinics. This position is a member of the national safety management team, that has responsibility and accountability for coordinating, collecting, disseminating, and intervening in a manner that anticipates, prevents, and identifies, evaluates, and controls hazards, as well as assisting during activation of a facility Incident Command Team. The Regional Director, Emergency Management, EC, and Safety maintains continuous survey readiness through compliance with regulations from a number of regulatory agencies, including The Joint Commission (TJC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and identified industry best management practices (BMP). This is a leadership position within the Ascension Michigan market with 9 direct reports. In this position our team has successfully participated in 15 Joint Commission triennial surveys, multiple randomized MIOSHA audits, and multiple CMS audits. We have also managed numerous emergency management incidents including mass causality incidents, flooding (water intrusions), fires, power outages, communication outages, polar vortex, loss of HVAC, loss of steam generation, shooting on campus, pandemic (COVID 19), mass vaccination clinics, and fatality investigations. I have also been involved with the development of a Pre-Construction Risk Assessments (PCRAs), Construction Safety Rounding, and building design.

Through the use of workplace safety/emergency standards (OSHA, NIOSH, ANSI, MIOSHA, NFPA, NIMS, and others) I directed the development and updates to all of our organizational policies and procedures. Part of policy development was also developing the training and exercising programs that supported these new efforts or sustaining best practices. In this role I directed three of the largest responses to incidents/ disasters that the hospital has had to date (Prolonged Power Outage/ HVAC Failure, and Internal Flooding (+$5,000,000 loss)).
