Air to air intercept, air to ground interdiction and tanker refueling. Worked at Borfink Bunker, the Static War Headquarters for Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers, Europe (SHAPE). Performed duties primarily as an Air Identification Officer identifying all aircraft over West Germany and monitored the East-West German border to identify any potentially hostile aircraft entering the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) and actively identifying aircraft in the Tactical Alert Zone (TAZ) and responding accordingly, to include active air scramble and guidance to the hostile aircraft to intercept it and force it down by any means necessary, including Anti-Air Artillery, (AAA), or Nike and Hercules missiles. Managed combat picture in the event of war. Our facility was the Sector Operations Control (SOC) and had control over all air and some ground operations, coordinating all air support.
