About James Chaffer
Hi, my name is James Chaffer and I studied at the University of Rochester where I received my B.S. in Computational Biology with a minor in Computer Science. My interest in applying computer science to biological concepts has only increased through my research and work experiences. Starting in the Yule lab at the University of Rochester Medical Center, I worked alongside Yule lab members and researchers in New Zealand to create a series of Jupyter Notebooks to rapidly analyze calcium imaging data, while also getting hands-on experience with the various laboratory methods used in the lab such as cell culturing, western blots, cell transfections, and in vitro microscope imaging. I am now working as a Software Developer at Stanford University where I am a member of the Lattice team. One of Lattice’s core responsibilities is to lead the curation of data for CELLxGENE Discover (cellxgene.cziscience.com), a visualization and analysis platform for single-cell data developed by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI). The Lattice team, along with computational biologists and software developers at CZI, sets requirements for data hosted at CELLxGENE and collaborates with researchers to populate the CELLxGENE data corpus. I look forward to continuing my important work with the Lattice team and continuing to explore the endless possibilities of computational biology.
