Project Manager
Staff Engineer
As a Staff Engineer in airport design the bulk of my work consist of drafting plans and specifications that meet all the requirements set by the FAA in their Advisory Circulars (AC) and the DOT&PF design guidelines. The projects I am working on are airport layout plans (ALP), runway reconstruction, apron rehabilitation, lease lot site development, airport master plan updates, and taxiway reconstruction. To develop plans and estimate accurate quantities I use Civil3D. Utilizing the tools in Civil3D I create alignments, profiles, structures, feature lines, grading tools, corridors, assemblies, perform water drop analysis, and generate material quantity reports.
Project Engineer
As a Project Engineer my day to day duties involved tracking daily work progress, preparing submittal packages, responding to submittal review comments, providing estimates for change order work, verifying pay estimate amounts, coordinating subcontractors, acquiring and reviewing bid estimates from suppliers and subcontractors, and updating project schedules. My other duties involved surveying project areas to determine quantities and check grades, verifying mix designs will meet project specifications, performing quality control testing on produced and placed materials, and preparing project bids. I have also performed roller compacted concrete (RCC) mix designs and performed all the RCC quality control and assurance testing. I relied on Microsoft Project to develop and maintain project CPM schedules. I worked to update the CPM schedules on a daily to weekly basis to track work progress. Tracking work items closely on the schedules was crucial because the updates could be used to determine delays and substantiate those delay claims.

Skagway: Replace Captain William Henry Moore BridgeThis project consisted of replacing the existing Captain William Henry Moore bridge with a Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) embankment over an arch culvert. The top of the embankment has two 12-foot lanes with 6-foot shoulders on each side of the highway. The new structure is located approximately 200 feet west of the existing bridge and required the construction of new approaches. The existing bridge was retained and closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. A new wayside was constructed for viewing the existing bridge and canyon and provides interpretive panels highlighting the role the bridge has had in connecting Alaska and Canada.POW: Hydaburg Highway Pavement RehabilitationThis project resurfaced Hydaburg Highway from Cedar Street (MP 0) to the intersection with Klawock-Hollis Highway (MP 22.5). The existing chip seal was pulverized and a new crushed asphalt base coarse and chip seal wearing surface was constructed. Various locations in the existing road base were dug out and reconstructed. Deteriorated culverts were replaced, bridge rails were removed and replaced, and waterproofing membrane was placed on twelve bridges. Signs, guardrails, and pavement markings were all removed and replaced.
Research Assistant
I am responsible for the literature review of the project I am working on. The research project is looking at existing passing zones and determining how effective they are and if they can be improved to address safety issues. The goal is to come up with design criteria that can help address safety issues associated with an aging driver population, excessive horizontal curves, and a large number of truck and camper traffic that may hinder sight distance.
