First “real” startup. It failed. I grew. We tried to combat the housing crisis for the “commuting workforce”. Rideshare drivers, for example, commute long distances to high-earning areas like San Francisco from Sacramento, LA and beyond. Rather than commute home, many choose to sleep in their cars for days or weeks at a time. This dynamic also plagues construction workers, public servants and other crucial operators of our society. It was, and still is, truly a public health and safety crisis. We first attempted to create a network of sleeping pods across underutilized parking lots in the Bay Area to provide a safe and affordable alternative to sleeping in one’s car. The regulatory hurdles proved to be insurmountable. We then created a service that paired individuals into groups to split the cost of hotel rooms. This was still too expensive.It is a problem that desperately needs to be solved. I was not able to solve it, but I would love nothing more than to help someone who might. I hope by sharing what we learned I can prevent someone else from making our mistakes. Please feel free to DM me at anytime or share my information with anyone that I might be able to help.
