I lead the actuarial and risk practice at Grant Thornton UK. For the last 25 years I have specialised in life insurance and have a particular passion for finance transformation projects (including model transformations). In addition, I have led several large financial reporting teams for a variety of insurers. For the last year I have used these skills in an integration project combining the finance functions of two leading UK insurers. This involved leading on the finance aspects of the integration of the production team, actuarial team, and investment office team. Key focuses included design of the target operating model for the technical teams, cost savings, and devising an off-shoring programme for the business. In my other recent work, I have led a 2-year finance transformation programme for a large mutual, which included a capital model process enhancement and heavy model streamlining: finally resulting in the working day timetable being reduced by 50%.
