I believe that patient education - and on a grander scale community outreach - is the best way to empower patients beyond their time under our care. Communicating important and complex topics to different people requires different approaches; it is an art not a science. Fostering discussion is the best way to get to know your patients/community and thus learn how to better communicate with them.
