James is a graduate of the Faculty of Science at McMaster University. He has both a B.Sc. in Life Sciences and a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Biology. In addition, James was a Doctoral graduate student studying Molecular Pharmacology in the Faculty of Pharmacology, Chemotherapy and Microbiology at the University of Trieste, Italy.During graduate school James gained an interest in Intellectual Property as a result of working with several international scientific collaborators. Taking his newfound interest and building on his career in science, James focused on patent protection, specifically in the fields of the natural sciences, life sciences and biotechnology. Since then, his patent practice has evolved to also working with scientists and engineers in several fields, including automotive technologies, production systems, food and beverage, oil and gas technologies, biofuels and medical devices.James is the inventor of several issued U.S. and Canadian patents in the life sciences and chemical fields. As well, James is also an author of peer-review scientific publications in the fields of pharmacology, wound healing and neuroscience, stemming from his work as a researcher.Prior to entering into private practice James worked "in-house" for a Life Sciences company in the Toronto area where he oversaw the company's patent portfolio including drafting and prosecuting patent applications. James also provided guidance on patent prosecution, infringement and validity matters. James also works closely with litigators to provide litigation support services.James has been active in community service for several years by sitting as a Scientific Advisor for the Hamilton Chapters of the Canadian Spinal Research Organization and the International Institute for Spinal Regeneration. Currently, James is member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and is an active member of the Rotary Club of Brampton, where he also sits on Board of Directors.
