Data Scientist: Natural Language ProcessingApixio Sep 2020 - PresentSan Mateo, California, UsResponsible for development of NLP Clinical Record Analysis Engine global and client-specialized product functionality. Apixio's Natural Language Processing (NLP) AI system (acquired from SyTrue and ClaimLogiq) enables analysis of unstructured clinical medical record data. The engine uses specialized rules, standardized code libraries (e.g. SNOMED, RXNORM, LOINC), classic NLP methods, and machine learning (ML) to extract critical data (e.g., lab data, medications records, diagnosis, treatment history, symptoms) from unstructured clinical medical records. We are currently evaluating a replacement model developed for Sepsis using generative AI (ChatGPT 4) and Azure Cognitive Services and Text Analytics for Health. This system uses Python and was developed in the Azure (Microsoft) Data Studio machine learning environment. SyTrue, Inc., an NLP-based software product company for medical record analysis was acquired by ClaimLogiq, Inc., summer, 2022. ClaimLogiq merged with Apixio in June, 2023. My role as a Data Scientist began with SyTrue. Apixo (originally created from Centene, Inc. in 2023) markets a collection of AI platform tools for value-based patient care. -

Data Scientist - Text Analytics / ModelingCotiviti Oct 2016 - May 2018South Jordan, Ut, UsData Science analysis work focused on combining different sources of medical insurance claim-related data to predict claim errors. Text-based and quantitative analytic methods were combined to create models. Selected text data and patient laboratory measures were extracted from patient medical records and joined with patient claim data to identify with high accuracy probability of certain types of recoverable errors. Specific text data was extracted in correspondence to key concepts evaluated by experts in claim auditing, with machine learning methods then applied to combined data. Also worked with retail customer data to predict value weighted claim collectability and developed models to predict claim concepts based on training set rule assignments. Work used R, Python, Hadoop, h2O and the PolyAnalyst data/text mining environment provided by Megaputer, Inc. Learning projects included developing facility with Spark and the Stanford Natural Language Processing (NLP) machine learning packages. -
