Florida Maxima Corporation is a small business that conducts basic and applied research in the social and behavioral sciences in government, academia, and industry. Founded in 1988 as a small, for-profit research and development firm, Florida Maxima Corporation has conducted research studies, projects, and analyses for an impressive list of clients, including: National Academy of Sciences, National Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Office of Naval Research, Air Force Research Laboratory, U.S. Army Research Institute, National Institutes of Health, Department of Homeland Security, Naval Research Laboratory, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Aviation Administration, Naval Air Warfare Center, Defense Modeling and Simulation Office, and the US Defense Intelligence Agency.I am currently working on funded research projects for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), and the Army Research Institute (ARI). For NASA (2013-2019 and 2021-present), past efforts involved classifying the critical team roles that influence team functioning, developing a method to measure team roles, and identifying the most efficacious composition of team roles to promote overall team effectiveness, as well as examining and developing a means to unobtrusively measure stress and its ensuing effects on individual and team performance. Our current funded NASA research is aimed at identifying the risks to team functioning and performance stemming from the potential development of interpersonal relationships that may have adverse effects on the team and developing and testing countermeasures to sustain team cohesion and mitigate the adverse effects of dysfunctional interpersonal relationships on the team. Research conducted for the Air Force Research Laboratory and the Army Research Institute involves foundational research aimed at understanding team composition in military teams.My primary research interests are in the areas of group processes and team performance, simulation and training, and human performance under stress. I have authored over 100 articles and papers, including recent publications in the Journal of Applied Psychology, American Psychologist, Human Factors, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Military Psychology, Small Group Research, Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, and Group Dynamics.
