About James D. Dudley, Jr.

With 20 years as a teacher, I bring a wealth of in-classroom experience, several leadership roles on the department and administration levels, a deep understanding of educational methodologies, and expertise in multiple subject areas. I combine passion with knowledge to develop intellectually curious minds and prepare them for their future endeavors.I am especially proud of my students who went on to distinguish themselves academically and professionally. Forming lasting, productive relationships with my classes allows me to empower them to be nuanced thinkers, strong writers, eager collaborators, and lifelong learners even after they leave my classroom. In particular, education in history plays an important role in creating engaged and politically active citizens who will shape our future.Key Achievements:✔ STUDENT DEVELOPMENT: I prepare my students to excel academically and professionally, and prepare them for the global stage. My students consistently score above national and global averages on International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP) exams. ✔ CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION: In 2009, I was part of the team that introduced the IB Diploma Program to the Newman School. In 2020, I helped transition grades 7-10 to the IB Middle Years Program.✔ SCHOOL LEADERSHIP: I contribute to the school not only as a teacher, but also as a visible member of the community. As the needs of our students and families evolved, I relished opportunities to wear different “hats” to better support them, including contributing to donor and alumni outreach, coaching athletics teams, and volunteering at non-profits.✔ TRAINING AND MENTORING: I have been blessed to study under educators who showed me their tried-and-true best practices to create a dynamic classroom environment while navigating the unique challenges of an independent school. Now, I pass on those lessons to the next generation of teachers by hiring, training, and mentoring our teaching team.
