London Youth Rowing is a charity that aims to make rowing accessible to young people in the capital. Thames Rowing Club is one of the largest and most successful clubs in the UK and is one of LYR’s four performance centres. As the head coach for the junior squad I am responsible for preparing and delivering the training programme to a group of approximately 40 youngsters between the ages of 14 and 18. As one of the Community Coaches, I was responsible for running the Satellites Hubs and Clubs (SHaC) program in schools across West London. The role involved working closely with teachers and students to encourage rowing participation indoors and on the water. The annual expansion of the program's targets is significant and consequently I worked closely with various London borough councils and sports units to engage new schools.As a part of the London Youth Rowing team I have experience organising and setting up indoor sports events. We are responsible for hosting the largest indoor rowing competition in the world, the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships. While this is an exceptionally large operation, the SHaC program requires set up of small to medium sized events on a regular basis, which are usually run as part of a small team or solo.This position involved daily coaching duties, collaborating with London Youth Rowing lead coaches at the University of London Boathouse and Thames Rowing Club to contribute to their respective junior performance groups.

The role involved working with schools, local clubs and university athletes to increase British Rowing members at both Cardiff City and City of Swansea rowing clubs.Worked closely with club volunteers, prior to their formal assessments, for their level 2 rowing coaching qualifications. Undertook a role with Cardiff Bay Water Activities Centre, coaching during peak periods and aided with the running of major events such as the Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships and the Welsh Varsity Boat race. Nominated for “Sport Wales’ Young Coach of the Year” by Welsh Rowing for my work with the Welsh junior team in 2011.
