Responsible for the development and management of WellPoint’s Medicare Programs product portfolio, including Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage and Part D prescription drug plans on a national basis for both individuals and employer group retirees. Had shadow P & L for all medical and Rx products and direct P & L responsibility for Long Term Care and Final Expense Products. Oversaw senior network functions including strategy, network development and provider outreach. Represented division in M&A activities. Managed a team of 50 professionals in 15 locations nationwide and a $9 million budget.

Responsible for WellPoint’s compliance with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association’s (BCBSA) Inter-Plan Programs Policies, including BlueCard and National Accounts programs. Acted as the primary point of contact between WellPoint and BCBSA on all Inter-Plan issues. Oversaw the development of briefing materials for WellPoint’s representatives on BCBSA Inter-Plan Programs Committees. Responsible for providing briefing material to CEO for BCBSA Board of Directors’ meetings. Developed and implemented a Medical Tourism product for National Accounts.

Responsible for the development and implementation of programs to increase claims submissions by California providers for out-of-state Blue Plan members. Successfully negotiated an agreement with Catholic Healthcare West hospitals to submit out-of-state Blue claims to Blue Cross of California (BCC) exclusively, resulting in a 52% increase in claims volume and incremental revenue in excess of $2 million annually. Oversaw the development and implementation of a pricing strategy to meet revenue goals for the processing of claims for BCC members living outside California and out-of-state Blue members residing in California. Worked with other Blue Plans to negotiate exclusive network arrangements for their accounts’ California employees.

Responsible for the implementation of all commercial marketing initiatives in California, Arizona, Oregon and Northeast regions, including advertising, direct mail, e-communications and collateral. Led the commercial marketing execution of Health Net’s national re-branding initiative. Developed marketing plans and tactics to support regional sales goals through increased lead generation and group retention. Lead various corporate e-communications initiative. Responsible for the training and development of corporate marketing team of seven.

Led team with responsibility for the design, development and implementation of all medical and ancillary products sold by 4.1 million member Large Group Division. Led managers and consultants overseeing enterprise-wide consumer directed product initiative. Coordinated all aspects of the product implementation and network development of Select HMO, Power Advantage PPO and a series of price-competitive HMO and PPO benefit designs. Responsible for the development and management of team of five, including two senior level project managers. Selected to participate in Leadership in Action training program for high potential, high performance Directors and Vice Presidents.
