Trails Off Road is a web site that catalogs four wheel drive trails across the United States. As a contributor I write and maintain trail descriptions and data for local four wheel drive trails. At McBain I was the sole mechanical and system design engineer. I was responsible for all aspects of the design and manufacturing process:* Initial concept development.* Customer interface to fine tune design concept to meet the customers expectations. * All aspects of CAD design (SolidWorks).* Prints for manufacturing.* BOM's* Mechanical assembly and training.* Electrical interface cable design and assembly.* System final buy-off.* Customer buy-off.* Installation and calibration of ultra-precision systems.While at McBain I successfully designed, assisted with the manufacture and delivered several systems with sub-micron volumetric accuracies with volumes of over 400 mm X 150 mm X 100 mm. I have designed several ultra-precision metrology system, dozens of measuring microscopes, a low cost wafer handler and dozens of other custom manufacturing products.

During my term at Veeco I was part of an 8 person mechanical design team. This team was responsible for the initial concept development and continual product development of all of the products that this division produced. The product line included lapping machines, wafer saws, custom handling machines and many other customized products. I was particularly instrumental in working with other departments and engineers to incorporate motion and automation sub systems. While at Veeco I developed my expertise in using SolidWorks Professional (2003 thru 2009) for 3D parametric design. I also used the FEA plug-in that was integrated in to SolidWorks as well as Cosmos Works to analyze flexure elements for infinite life while minimizing their spring rate. I was part of a team that integrated all of our CAD data in to PDM Works, a plug-in of SolidWorks. A few years later we replaced PDM Works with a stand-alone PDM software package that was also a Dassault Systems product/SolidWorks product. This is a predecessor of what is now known as SolidWorks PDM 2019. At Balfrey Precision we built many systems using air bearing stages and Delta Tau controls. I supervised a small team of technicians that were responsible for the integration and assembly of systems and components. My responsibilities included:* Production scheduling.* Direct supervision of assembly technicians.* Design and integration of servo control systems.* Developing BOMs for entire systems.* Electrical assembly and integration.* Electrical documentation of cable and integration drawings using Autocad.* Precision mechanical assembly of air bearing systems.* Final calibration of systems including on-site installation and calibration.I also started learning 3D parametric design (Pro Engineer) at Balfrey Precision.

At McBain I was part of a team that developed a strong product line primarily supporting the hard drive head manufacturing industry. I was in charge of the production floor where we would assemble and test these systems. My duties included:* Direct supervision of technicians.* Development of BOMs* Electrical design and integration.* Electrical design documentation (Autocad)* Direct interface with customers for delivery schedules and buy off of systems.* International installations* International support and calibrations.I am particularly proud of how I was able to significantly contribute to the improved profitability and delivery schedules of the manufacturing department. This was developed thru implementing improved manufacturing processes and improved documentation.

PPL manufactured metrology and assembly/inspection systems. They also manufactured precision linear and rotary slides for distribution. I was in charge of the precision assembly area where the linear and rotary slides were assembled. In this department I supervised as many as 10 technicians. My responsibilities included:* Direct supervision of technicians.* Interface with production control/planning.* Inspect all components for accuracy and quality compliance.* Training and documentation for assembly and inspection criteria.
