James Essinger is a writer, editor, literary agent, publisher and public relations consultant. He was born in Leicester in 1957 and has lived in Canterbury since 1986. He was born in Leicester in 1957 and has lived in Canterbury since 1986. He has worked on a freelance basis since 1988. James holds an MA (Hons) in English Language and Literature from Lincoln College, Oxford University. After publishing more than twenty business and management books, James’s first mass-market book was 'Jacquard's Web', how a hand loom led to the birth of the information age, followed by 'Spellbound: the improbable story of English spelling', which was published both in the UK and the US. James’s book, 'Ada's Algorithm', a new biography of Lord Byron’s daughter Ada Lovelace, was published in the UK in October 2013. A longer version of this book was published in the US in October 2014 under the title Ada’s Algorithm. An option on the movie rights for 'Ada's Algorithm' has been sold to a leading Hollywood movie production company, Monumental Pictures, and a screenplay has been commissioned from Shawn Slovo, who wrote the screenplay for 'Captain Corelli’s Mandolin'.'America's Reluctant Heroine: how Frances Kelsey saved the United States from thalidomide' is to be published by the US publisher Beacon Publishing in November 2018.James is also the author, with Jovanka Houska IM, of the novel 'The Mating Game', published in December 2016, and he is working on a new biography of Charles Babbage, 'Machines of the Mind'.
