About James Barlow
I'm a Professor in Technology and Innovation Management (Healthcare) at Imperial College Business School. Since January 2024, I've been co-director of Imperial College's new Centre for Sectoral Economic Performance (CSEP). I'm also a member of Imperial's Centre for Health Economics and Policy Innovation (CHEPI).Since the late 1990s, my work has primarily focused on the challenges around the development and implementation of innovation in healthcare. I've been a principal or co-investigator on many research projects and centres, and regularly advise government and industry on strategic and policy issues. I'm currently working on innovation and productivity in the biopharma sector, and on the implementation of AI-driven healthcare.I haven't just worked in the health sector. I also have extensive experience of innovation issues in housing and construction, and through CSEP I am helping to build a growing programme of work on the UK’s existing and emerging high-value industries across engineering, life sciences, and data science.I teach undergraduate, MSc, MBA and executive education courses. I’m a frequent speaker at conferences and executive education programmes across the world.
