Redesign of key surgical tools and the LVAD’s extracorporeal lead (power driveline). Development of re sterilisation protocols, test specifications and supervision of external test houses. This included concept design, detail embodiment, production support, testing, supplier integration and project management of the surgical tool project. An overhaul of the user wearables, including the LVAD controller, “hot swap” battery, battery charger, shoulder pouch, connectors and controller User Interface. This project focussed on a technology driven weight reduction and improvement of User Interface/ ergonomics of the patient’s control system. My input was broad and cross functional: initial concept design and human factors testing, supervising the User Interface content and graphics, surgical tools redesign and shoulder pouch development. Culminating in the detail mechanical engineering of the controller - turning concept work into a User Centred Medical Product.

Electrolux Home Products (Australia) is a leading manufacturer and distributor of quality household appliances under several brands including Simpson, Kelvinator, Westinghouse and Hoover. My role involved R&D of new components for a complete range of two door frost free domestic refrigerators (Project Ophir). The role included providing a close link to EHP’s industrial design department and successful introduction of new designs to production and market. From an engineering perspective the role focused on achieving several key objectives including; meeting new Australian Energy Consumption Regulations (MEPS), meeting relevant performance standards, manufacturing platform rationalisation, reduction of component usage, cost reductions and improved service call rates. I was also responsible for supervising several CAD users to develop engineering models and drawings. This included part tracking and project management awareness.
