Confronted with significant investment performance, profit and morale challenges following the global financial crisis, partnered with CEO to engineer a multi-dimensional turnaround of AB. Actions included expanding and diversifying the product array (including inorganic addition of nine teams in equities and private/public alternatives), strategic repositioning and redesign of retail/institutional distribution and wealth management, re-engineering of internal planning and financial processes, re-basing the cost structure, realigning the organization to improve accountability, upgrading business leadership, and redefining and refocusing on corporate culture. Key outcomes included:• Total shareholder returns well in excess of peers and the S&P 500• 150% growth in EPS from 2011-20 and 1350 basis point increase in operating margin• $500+ million in new organic revenue derived from new product additions • Improvement in active net flows from $(65)b in 2011 to $30b in 2019 and $15b in 2020• Employee engagement scores up by 10 pointsMost recently, conceptualized and executed headquarter move to Nashville, results of which include: significantly higher employee engagement/morale vs. rest of firm, $80 million of structural cost reduction beginning in 2025. Recognized as NewsMaker of the Year by the Nashville Business Journal based on the success of the move.Formal responsibilities as COO included oversight of Retail and Institutional distribution, the Private Wealth Management business, Bernstein Research (Sanford Bernstein), Finance, Legal and Compliance, Technology, Operations, Human Capital, Audit, and Office Services, totaling well over 3,000 employees across the Americas, EMEA and Asia.

Oversaw AB’s sell-side business, including research, sales and trading. Actions included repositioning business from US-centric to global, including expansion to Asia, entering listed options, greatly expanding corporate access events and marketing, investing behind global electronic trading platform; actions led to: consistent share gainer in every geography; record revenue and profitability.

Oversaw Bernstein’s global sell-side research function. Significantly expanded research footprint in U.S. and Europe; re-engineered recruiting process; designed and executed new analyst performance and feedback system; record results in external surveys of research quality.
